Self Doubt

When you get stuck in a season of self doubt, what is your typical pattern? Do you isolate yourself from others? Do your thoughts turn into unproductive, self-deprecating language that don’t help you see a way through the uncertainty? That’s how a lot of people, myself included, choose to engage with self doubt at times.

Self doubt grows in isolation.

When you keep those doubting thoughts, those limiting beliefs, those mind gremlins to yourself, you’re fueling the opportunity for them to morph and grow and transform. Self doubt turns into excuses, which turns into procrastination, which turns into inaction, which turns into being stuck…you get the idea.

What self doubt cannot tolerate is encouragement from others and empowering reality checks from yourself. When you have someone (or some people) that you trust to share your doubts and concerns with, and who you know will give you honest and genuine feedback, self doubt slithers back into the shadows.

If you find yourself lost in doubt these days, have you shared them with anyone? Have you even voiced them out loud to yourself? When you share your doubts with someone who can see in your blind spots, you’ll get a new perspective, new encouragement, a new focus.

Self doubt can’t survive long in an environment of encouragement and intention and support. If you don’t have an environment like that, what’s a small step you can take to start creating it?
