I’ve Published A Book!
For years it’s been my dream to be a published author, and I’m thrilled to say that I’ve officially started that journey!
My first published book is an activity book for adults that is titled: STOP DOOM SCROLLING! An Adventure Inspired Activity Book To Get You Off Your Phone and Back To Living Life. Quite the title, isn’t it? While I know the title is long, I wanted to make sure that it was incredibly obvious what the activity book offers just by looking at the cover. And even though we say not to judge a book by it’s cover, we all still do it.
If you aren’t familiar with the term doom scrolling, that’s okay. You may not know the term, but I guarantee you’ve been in a doom scrolling cycle at least once in your life. Doom scrolling is where you are consuming large amounts of news or social media, most often negative news and social media, that is contributing to feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, depression, and increased fear of the world around us (and people not like us). Doom scrolling causes us to move our bodies less because we often doom scroll on the couch or in bed or when we’re supposed to be working. Doom scrolling is a complete time suck and we get nothing positive out of it.
That is why I created this activity book - to stop the doom scroll and get you back into your life, without screens. I’m not saying all screen time is bad! You’re reading this blog post from a screen after all, and there is incredibly valuable information and ideas and guidance to be found within our screens. We need to create boundaries with screens, and understand when we’re using them to our detriment or our benefit.
This activity book marks the first in a series of books that will be inspired by my summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2024. I knew I wasn’t done sharing about my adventures in Tanzania and I wanted to create a way for more people to access the stories I have to share and the lessons I learned. While this first book is an activity book filled with crosswords, sudoku, word searches, and similar games, it also has exercises for personal growth. Those exercises include prompts to create your own “I AM” mantras, vision boards, gratitude journals, in-depth journaling opportunities sparked by deep prompts, and so much more. I wanted to infuse personal growth into a fun activity book so that people can have more access to screen free, intentional ways to invest their time.
